India: Hundreds dead in Kerala due to landslide, rescue efforts on

Army has been pressed into service and is heading the search operations and rescue missions in Wayanad district of Kerala in Southern India.
The landslide has caused nearly 288 deaths and 1,000 injuries. Mundakkai is the region that has been most severely affected.
The death toll is around 288. Many people are still missing.
Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi announced that they were on their way to Wayanad to meet the victims. The Centre has also offered support.
Natural calamities cause large number of deaths in the country. The coastal states are more affected. In fact, Kerala has witnessed large scale devastation several times in the last decade.
